… As Long As I’m Sincere

What is YOUr Response?

1 Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb.
2 Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it.
3 His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow.
4 The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint.
5 Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
6 He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying.
7 And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Remember what I have told you.”
8 The women ran quickly from the tomb. They were very frightened but also filled with great joy, and they rushed to give the disciples the angel’s message.
9 And as they went, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they ran to him, grasped his feet, and worshiped him. Matthew 28:1-9 (NLT)

Happy New Year!

Evaluations and lists are everywhere today. Have you checked in to see what your goals in life are for the next year?

Oh, here’s a link to an article placed in the Mechanics Bank “Closer to Home” newsletter about Christmas on the Avenue. We had a standing-room only crowd as the City of Pinole opened up one of their empty store fronts. Ginger Hohm, Evie Haskell-Herndon, and Martin Cantu gave a gift to the city of Christmas music.

Facebook, MySpace, Blogs … Unifyer

I love Facebook. I have been able to connect with dozens and dozens of my current and past friends and family. It seems that not a day goes by when the name of someone I once spent a lot of time with pops up.

For me, that is AWESOME, I really love it.

What if the local church — MY church, CENTRAL ASSEMBLY — was able to connect the like-minded people groups together. Communication would increase. I think there could be a quicker adoption by ministries to connect. Hope Groups could even go to the next steps.

I have been exploring this. There are a lot of social networks out there. And recently I have discovered Unifyer. I am doing research on it right now. Ning, Unifyer, Facebook, and blogs are all ways to make connection.

Maybe you could check the link below, then come back with a few comments as you see it. I would love your input!

Bob the Sound Guy

I can’t resist. We had a HUGE outreach at Central last Saturday night. Island Praise of Central Assembly and L-Rey pulled out all the stops and included many children and other participants at the Lu’au. It was a little cold — but AMAZING. Thanks to everyone who enabled this to happen. Oh, and without further delay ….

The Book of John in the Bible

Incredible! That’s about the only way to describe the talk given today by my friend Jonathan Gainsbrugh. His blog is at MarkOfTheFeast.com .

The book of John is much different than Matthew, Mark, and Luke. It is often referred to new followers of Christ to get them started just after making that life-changing decision. The thing about the gospel of John is that it is RRRRR — elational. And Jonathan went through it chapter-by-chapter from the 30,000 ft. level and then zoomed it right into our hearts.

You should read the gospel of John. Check it out for yourself — it is not only an adventure, but could just get YOU really thinking about your own RRRRR — elationship as it relates to Jesus.

We’re Ba a a a k!

American Airline Flight DelayWow! What a great week we had on vacation.

Today was a travel day … all day. (Tuesday). Our flight left Chicago O’Hare Airport at 8:30 AM, was diverted and landed in Wichata Falls, TX because of bad weather at Dallas. We were on the ground waiting for 4 additional hours just sitting in the plane, almost 8 hours on that plane in total. They did give everyone 1 piece of Dominoes Pizza after three hours of waiting, though. 😉

Then on to Dallas where all of our flights were canceled. So we flew into SFO. That would have been fine, but for our luggage. It is now scheduled (we think) to go to Oakland sometime on Wednesday. Then they will deliver it to us.

We just got back from Target where Ginger got a shiny new curling iron and fresh make-up. She said she needed that to return to the real world on Wednesday. Hmmmm…..

Thanks for all the prayers, we are really rested.Indy 500 Car

Had a great time the past 3 days in Chicago and with our diversion on Sunday to the Indianapolis 500 where we witnessed first-hand … the DANICA MARCH! Can’t wait to see all of our California Family!

Oh, and here’s a quick photo of the Nintendo Wii Fit Car … didn’t leave the race very “fit” at all, eh?

Sunday Service Update

I had a great time speaking at my mom’s church this morning. It’s kind of amazing to me and must be to her to remember how nearly 50 years ago (man, I’m old, eh Nancy?) she started praying for me. Years later, of course, God called me into the ministry. Now I travel over 2000 miles after I’m sure more than 1000 stories and encourage her friends.

God has ways of bringing things together — His plan — but, we all gotta listen and stay obedient to His leading!

Ginger shared her song, “Let it Rain” during the service.

Thanks to Russ and Tanya Sturm for the love you have for Central Assembly. YOU ARE A BLESSING TO GINGER AND ME!

Headed to Chi-Town

chicago-at-nightI grew up about 90 miles from Chicago, Illinois. At about midnight, Friday, May 16, 2008 we fly out of San Francisco on a 10-day trip back home. Some pretty exciting things are coming together that you could sure pray about for our trip there.

1. Ginger and I will be guest speakers at my mom’s church on Sunday morning. I am bringing a powerful message from the “Lost” series we did at Central Assembly last year. Remember it? It had the video of me talking about “The Taste Test” and filling all those cups up and talking about Solomon? Ginger is planning on ministering the song she wrote called, “Let it Rain” as well.

2. I am going to visit a tree I planted at my elementary school — Maple School. When I think of me being a 3rd grader and 8 years-old — well it makes ME FEEL pretty old indeed. But there was a legacy left there for now two generations!

3. We plan on visiting my Grandpa and Grandma Hohm’s grave in Sycamore, Illinois. I remember every Memorial Day we would go there until I was probably 14 or 15 years old. One time this 1-hour trip took like 6 hours because our Toyota Crown Station Wagon’s carborator’s needle-valve kept sticking open and flooding the engine with gas. That gas back then? Probably 45 cents per gallon. NOW I AM REALLY FEELING OLD!

More to come … just bookmark this page or check in to http://chicago.revtim.com at any time for updates!

Easter is AMAZING!

On Sunday, I will be speaking on the “AMAZING!” life of Jesus Christ. You can’t deny it. History reveals it and the Bible unwraps it even more thoroughly.

Easter_2008_webThe principles, morals, stories, and truths of God’s Word have changed my life. It’s more than positive thinking, adopting a philosophy or learning “religious” terms. When you get really practical and build a true relationship with Jesus, it MUST change you. So now, when I help the poor in a Third-World nation or when I pray for a crying girl on public transit, it makes a lot of sense.

Jesus set the example to LIVE out the life He called into. One that is all about knowing God and making Him known. Meditation doesn’t cut it, being “nice” isn’t enough, and as admirable as social work is — it is nothing — unless you introduce the love that was authored God.

So we celebrate Easter this weekend, and actually take the underlying message of Easter with us daily.

Matthew 12:23 “The crowd was AMAZED. ‘Could it be that Jesus is the Son of David, the Messiah?’ . . .

Supernatural Coming to Central Assembly in March

What you see is not all there is. The Bible says, “We are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world…” (Eph 6:12, NLT). Join us as we study spiritual warfare, angels, demons and the Holy Spirit. Together we’ll uncover the SuperNatural. Inspired by Lifechurch.tv

True Love — Happy Valentine’s Day!

This is one of the most prolific and poetic ways to say love. God’s Word expresses it so well that it has stood the test of time for some 2000 years.

Have a wonderful time with those special people you love. Make the day count!1 Corinthians 13 (THE MESSAGE)

The Way of Love

(1) If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate. (2) If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing. (3-7) If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.

Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end. 8-10Love never dies. Inspired speech will be over some day; praying in tongues will end; understanding will reach its limit. We know only a portion of the truth, and what we say about God is always incomplete. But when the Complete arrives, our incompletes will be canceled.

(11) When I was an infant at my mother’s breast, I gurgled and cooed like any infant. When I grew up, I left those infant ways for good.

(12) We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us!

(13) But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love.

Franciscan Benediction — BLESSING —

From a Franciscan Benediction . . .

May God bless you with discomfort at easy answers, half truths, and superficial relationships, so that you may live deep within your heart.

May God bless you with anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people, so that you may work for justice, freedom and peace.

May God bless you with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation, and war, so that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and to turn their pain in to joy.

And may God bless you with enough foolishness to believe that you can make a difference in this world, so that you can do what others claim cannot be done.

How is God blessing you?
