Hostage! Lies

October 15, 2008

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does .The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 2 Corinthians 10:3-4

WHAT LIES HOLD US HOSTAGE?

LIE: GOD CAN’T CHANGE ME

TRUTH: …we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.  Ephesians 2:10 NLT

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation ; the old has gone, the new has come!
2 Corinthians 5:17-18

THE STRATEGY of THOUGHTS AND OVERCOMING LIES

1. CAPTURE WRONG THOUGHTS.
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5

…whatever is true…noble…right…pure…lovely…admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things. Philippians 4:8

2. SPEAK TRUTH.
The tongue has the power of life and death… Proverbs 18:21

May the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer. Psalms 19:14 NLT

3. DON’T GIVE UP.
To this end I labor, struggling with all His energy, which so powerfully works in me.
Colossians 1:29-2:1

…But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:13-14

The Book of John in the Bible

July 13, 2008

Incredible! That’s about the only way to describe the talk given today by my friend Jonathan Gainsbrugh. His blog is at MarkOfTheFeast.com .

The book of John is much different than Matthew, Mark, and Luke. It is often referred to new followers of Christ to get them started just after making that life-changing decision. The thing about the gospel of John is that it is RRRRR — elational. And Jonathan went through it chapter-by-chapter from the 30,000 ft. level and then zoomed it right into our hearts.

You should read the gospel of John. Check it out for yourself — it is not only an adventure, but could just get YOU really thinking about your own RRRRR — elationship as it relates to Jesus.

iPhone Will Meet RevTim on Friday

July 9, 2008

I think it’s a good match — and I have been waiting for a year for this to happen. On Friday, when the iPhone 3G is launched, I will be in line. I will pick mine up at the Apple store in Emeryville, California. It is just 10 minutes from my house or so.

I’m trying to decide what is most exciting about the new iPhone. For me, it will start out with the GPS features and the high-quality video. But the new syncing with Mobileme seems amazing as well. There will be a learning curve to get everything set up and running, especially getting things moved over from my Treo. I’m still not sure how THAT is going to work.

Any Treo to iPhone links or tips would be appreciated, just leave them in the comments.

Oh, and a little while ago I got off the phone with Sprint. They offered me a SWEET DEAL on their new INSTINCT. But I’m sure I would regret not getting that new Apple product. I’m kinda hooked on ‘em right now.

Suggestions? Comments? Are you getting one?

Bastian Legacy

May 20, 2008

Interesting day today (Tuesday). Ginger and I visited the grave sites of dozens of my family members on my father’s side. And I found out a lot of history about it. Although our name is not “Bastian” — the “Bastian’s” bought this farm land 152 years ago and started a cemetery that only allows relatives to be buried there. So that means that I am related to people who are documented and approved to be part of this family line. Pretty cool, eh?

Pictures will follow, but for now why not check out the link to the Google picture. It is in Hinckley, Illinois.

Link is here.

Answer for Feeling Down or Depressed

November 11, 2007

Ps 5:11 But let all those who take refuge and put their trust in You rejoice; let them ever sing and shout for joy, because You make a covering over them and defend them; let those also who love Your name be joyful in You and be in high spirits.

Shifting your focus or point of view can be truly life-altering. What if each time we had a crisis, a challenge, or chaos in our lives we would switch our perspective.

Those with faith in God understand what this can mean. Instead of dread or despair, when you think about shelter and/or defense and safety — instead of betrayal we once again trust God — there is an unbelievable release! Now instead of depression our thoughts are alert and optimistic. And you know what??? I totally like the feeling of looking UP instead becoming bogged down by the cares of each day.

Question: Where has your focus been the past 7 days? I give you permission to turn your eyes upward!

FEARLESS?

September 30, 2007

The FEARLESS series inspired by Lifechurch.tv has been going very well. We are impacting people for God. Many have been talking about how God is speaking to them each week.

We have seen countless commitments to the Lord, both people asking Jesus to become their Lord as well as more and more dedicating a “new” phase of their lives to a deeper walk with Jesus. We are all here to make a difference and to devote our lives to Christ. Along this journey of our lives we face many challenges … and many opportunities.

It’s time to build these relationships with people. It’s time to be bold. It’s time to step into God’s plans — (which, by the way are not for disaster) — and pursue His destiny for us.

Are you timid or afraid things might not work out if you try to do something for Jesus? Well, don’t be. You are not alone in those FEARS and thoughts, they happen to us all. Just hang on and take a risk, you WON’T be sorry, I promise … what’s even much better … GOD PROMISES!

2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (NKJV)
